Ithra Hosts Vibrant Gargee’an Festivities: Blending Tradition & Fun

DHAHRAN: The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, Ithra, is alive with joy and celebration as it hosts the traditional Gargee’an festivities this week, running until March 15 from 8:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

The event offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for children, including traditional folk performances and live shows. The main plaza is filled with exciting attractions and Instagram-worthy moments, while the Children’s Museum, Children’s Oasis, Library, and Energy Exhibit feature dedicated activities for the occasion.

Outdoor spaces are adorned with colorful confetti, adding to the festive atmosphere and delighting both children and adults.

Gargee’an, a cultural tradition celebrated in Gulf countries during the middle of Ramadan, involves children wearing traditional attire and collecting sweets from neighbors. At Ithra, however, children can receive treats without having to go door-to-door.

Dammam resident Fatimah Alqahtani, attending the event with her daughter and niece, expressed her excitement: "This is our first time attending the Ithra Gargee’an event. The weather is lovely, and we’re excited to explore the outdoor activities.”

Children’s laughter and cheerful shouts of "Everything! Everything!" echoed when asked about their favorite part of the celebration.

While entry to the Children’s Museum requires a ticket, all other areas are free for visitors.
